ALESSANDRO VALERI

Alessandro Valeri completed his studies at the State Institute for Cinematography and Television Roberto Rossellini and the Experimental Cinematography Center in Rome in the late 80s and early 90s.

He works between his studio at the Pastificio Cerere, an art space since the early 70s which later became a reference point for the “Nuova Scuola Romena” (New Romen School) in the 80s, and Paris, which has always been his secondhome and where he has now permanently moved.

Since 2024, Alessandro Valeri, as the first contemporary artist, has joined the group of artists of the Lart Universe World, led by art expert and gallerist Beniamino Levi. His work has always bee inspired by the purpose to encourage creative and social participation and promote change in individual and collective consciousness.

Through the use of different materials, manipulated with classic techniques combined with the most innovative, his creative research has matured and developed. Casting a critical gaze on reality, which is questioned, investigated, and challenged, his work ranges from photography, painting, drawing, writing, and sculpture to the use of neon, electronics, video, sound design, advertising, and installations.

His creative pursuits have also spanned through the realms of advertising and social communication, where he has signed award-winning campaigns for major national and international brands.

SEPPHORIS

56th Venice Biennale (2015)

The exhibition is made up of fifteen three-by-three-metre canvases, hung from the beams of the atrium which spiral upwards for twenty-five metres, creating a vertigo in which the photographic images, completed by pictorial interventions, tell the story of the orphanage of Sephoris. The installation is accompanied by a video that the artist and the curator shot together in Israel, in the orphanage, creating a composite work between art video, documentary, classic and short film. Sepphoris is accompanied by a bilingual catalog containing the preparatory photographic documentation and the backstage of the video.

PANORAMA

Museo Pan, Naples 2013

The core of the exhibition consists of works that represent the historic places in New York frequented by Andy Warhol during his last year of life. These are seductive views of the 80s, full of a contemporaneity that has now disappeared. The images show the urban accumulation of the metropolis with street scenes, crumbling buildings and characters still close in time and memory.

The dynamic faces and bodies photographed by Alessandro Valeri focus on aspects of movement and becoming. They represent an inverted space and time of meaning. They create an almost shamanic effect through pictorial signals dictated by a unique and unrepeatable gesture, which elegantly summarizes the tribal dimension and aesthetic tragedy.

The portraits of Naomi Campbell, Valentino Rossi or the faces of trapeze artists, acrobats, tamers and clowns express another symbolism. They are icons of the collective imagination, escaped from everyday life and the universe of advertising, residual symbols of a world in transformation.
