Matera

The exhibition Lart Universe – Fondazione Sassi, Matera (March 19 – October 29, 2026)presents a dialogue between two artistic paths deeply connected to Mediterranean culture.

The first section, “The Surreal Wind of the Mediterranean, dedicated to Salvador Dalí and curated by Beniamino Levi, explores the Mediterranean as a fundamental source of Dalí’s imagery. Places such as Cadaqués and Port Lligat become the poetic origin of his vision, where light, wind, and sea turn into symbols of transformation and time. Iconic works like the Space Venus and references to melting clocks highlight this connection. The dialogue with Matera links the open seaof Catalonia with the terrestrial landscape of the Sassi and their water systems. Photographs by Robert Descharnes further reinforce the bond between landscape and artistic creation.

The second section, Archetypes in Dialogue, focuses on Alessandro Valeri, curated by Giorgio Calcara. Through photography, Valeri explores the female figure as a universal archetype, connecting Mediterranean cultures and ancestral symbols. The woman appears as a modern Magna Mater, evoking figures such as Cybele, Ceres, and Aphrodite. The exhibition also includes the Sepphoris series, addressing social and humanitarian themes and transforming art into a sharedethical experience.

Overall, the exhibition creates a dialogue between water, memory, and identity, linking the Mediterranean as a symbolic origin with Matera as a place of cultural transformation.
