DE VIA LACTEA
Castello Carlo V, Lecce
When contemporary art enters a place shaped by centuries of history, a new dialogue begins. As part of Ierofania. Sulle vie del Sacro, the multidisciplinary programme promoted by the Italian
Ministry of Culture, Alessandro Valeri presents De Via Lactea, a monumental site specific neon installation created for the walls of Castello Carlo V in Lecce. The festival brings together art, theatre, music and archaeology, inviting contemporary artists to reinterpret some of Italy’s most significant cultural sites.
At the heart of the work are three simple yet universal words: LIFE. MILK. LOVE.
For Valeri, they represent the essential forces of existence. Life as origin. Milk as nourishment and transformation. Love as the energy that connects every human experience. Suspended on the Renaissance fortress, the luminous words become a quiet meditation on hope, care and shared humanity.
More than an installation, De Via Lactea transforms one of Southern Italy’s most important historic landmarks into a place where memory and contemporary artistic language coexist, demonstrating how the past can continue to generate new meanings through the art of the present.
