Damiano Spelta
Damiano Spelta was born in Milan in 1966. Over more than twenty years of artistic exploration, his art is first and foremost an idea and then a product: assemblages, design, airbrush paintings on all kinds of surfaces, including boat hulls, helmets, cars, and more. His art is Dadaist in its ideological conception and Pop Art in its irreverent irony. This is not intended as a mere classification into movements or pre-packaged canons, but rather an acknowledgement of the countless and multifaceted capabilities of an artist who seeks to play with objects to transform the obvious into the unexpected, rooted in a reflection on contemporaneity as the sole dimension of thought.
There are many ways to interpret the meaning of life; Damiano Spelta’s is metaphorically ironic and provocative, sarcastic and scathing. Through his peculiar language, he enthralls and fascinates us, often leaving us amused but above all surprisingly contemplative in front of his works, which lead us to social reflection.
An experimenter with materials and techniques, art and design blend together without adhering to conventions. His source of inspiration comes from reflections on the contemporary world and its contradictions. Whether it is a painting or a design object, often of considerable size, the artist confronts us with our obsessions, our weaknesses, and the status symbols that represent who we “would like to be” rather than who we really are.
